John Hardwick is a well-known Creative Christian Communicator. He is the co-founder of GenR8 schools teams that reach over 20,000 children each term. He’s leads all-age worship at Spring Harvest, Easter People and other Christian conferences. He’s written several well known children’s songs including, God’s People, For God So Loved the World, the Girl’s Brigade Song. He is the author of the Champions Holiday Club ’, ‘Jungle Jamboree’ and ‘Children’s Talks with Puppet Sketches. Workshops: 1. Holiday Clubs Holiday clubs are a great way of reaching this generation of Children. Are you running one? If not, why not? Naomi Vincent (UK)
Naomi has been doing puppetry from the age of 10. After attending a couple of the One Way UK conferences she decided she wanted to become a ventriloquist. Now 21 years old, Naomi has attained a very high level in ventriloquism and has received a number of top international awards. Naomi has been teaching at One Way UK and private events for the past 4 years inspiring many to use ventriloquism as a means in communicating the Gospel message in a fun way. Workshops: 1. Basic Ventriloquism In this practical workshop you will be taught the basics of ventriloquism, and concentrate on the ventriloquism alphabet without moving your lips. Naomi will also show how to create the illusion that your puppet is really alive. 2. Lip Control for Ventriloquism We will be going over the techniques of talking without moving your lips. This will involve taking each of the letters of the alphabet and training yourself to be able to say them without the use of your lips. By the end of the seminar you should be able to produce nearly all of the alphabet. 3. Develop Your Act as a Vent or Solo Puppeteer In this seminar we will be covering body language and voice of your puppet for ventriloquism and solo puppetry. We will also cover how to present yourself to an audience or group of people, for example: stage presence, choosing material to suit an audience, how to keep people's attention and much more in order to equip you with the skills to present yourself and your puppet appropriately to both adults and children. 4. James Groves (UK)
James has been working with live PA for the last seven years and on a professional scale for the last three years. In that time he has worked with a number of artists both Christian and secular including PJ Proby, Journey South (X Factor) and Blush UK. James owns his own company (JG Audio Production Services) and produced the ‘Seeking Your Love’ musical for One Way UK to be released at this years EPMF. He will also be providing equipment and engineering at this years European conferences. James is involved with the technical side for his home puppet team, operating sound and lights and providing the sound production for their Joseph Musical which has performed more than 50 times nationwide. He has a wealth of knowledge in live entertainment production as well as in the studio. Workshops: 1. Recording Your Own Material This workshop will cover the basic aspects of recording and post-production techniques. Comparing the different types of recording equipment and helping you to use what is available to you. How to use recording software effectively and enhance recordings to have a professional sounding end product.

John heads up the Technical Support group for SoundPlus in Europe. His parent company from South Korea has built up an enviable reputation over the last 10 years for introducing some unique features to Portable Wireless Amplifiers so that they can best suit the needs of schools, churches, fitness groups, entertainers and indeed puppetry. David Jones (UK)
David has been involved with puppet ministry for the last 12 years since he joined a team when he was 9 and has travelled to Africa and Romania as well as all over the UK. He joined One Way UK as a director in April 2009 and works full time at the Head office in Grimsby. David has a passion for working with children and young people within various groups in his home church and completed a Diploma in Children's Evangelism and Nurture in June 2009 after studying at Cliff College, Derbyshire. In September 2010 he is heading back to college to complete the part-time course to a degree level. He has secured a number of grants for youth events held in Grimsby from a range of sources, as well as funds to support puppet teams in buying new equipment. Most recently he helped lead the Puppet Academy Team in 2009 and 2010. Workshops: 1. Staging & Props Apart from solo puppetry the majority of our performances take place behind a puppet stage. This workshop is for everyone, whether you already have a stage or are thinking of getting one, you will be shown what you need and how to get the most out of what you have. Also come and be inspired with new prop ideas. 2. Grants for Churches If you have been inspired to start your own puppet ministry but need funds to get it going or whether you just need some new equipment for your team, then this workshop will give you the guidance and advice needed to obtain grants for up to £2,000 with simple two or three page applications from Christian sources.
Steve Price (UK)
Steve uses intriguing tricks and entertaining illusions to present a gospel message. Suitable for all occasions, including family services, youth events and missions. Steve will be performing main stage on the both the Friday and Saturday and will also be leading workshops. Workshops: 1. Basic Gospel Illusions If you're new to gospel magic, then this might just be the place to start. In this workshop Steve Price will be demonstrating and then explaining some simple tricks THAT YOU CAN DO to help illustrate the gospel. Illusions are a great way of getting interest and sharing a message; people don't just watch what you do - they listen to what you say! It doesn't matter what age you work with - young, old, or somewhere in between - you will leave with some practical illustrations that you might just use. 2. Advanced Gospel Illusions OK, so you've played around with a few tricks and found them to be quite a successful way of presenting the gospel. What now? In this workshop Steve Price will be helping you learn a few more tricks that require some rehearsal. This doesn't mean that they are hard to master, but you might want to try them out a few times before attempting them in public!
Diane Hellyer (UK)
Diane has been a One Way UK workshop leader for a number of years. Originally a children’s worker, particularly with pre-schoolers, she now performs and teaches puppetry nationally and internationally. She has been married to Peter for almost 40 years and has three sons (all are puppeteers) and one grandson. She and Peter live in West Sussex. Workshops: 1. Reaching and Teaching with Animals From a boxful of animal puppets, Diane draws out Biblical illustrations that may be used in children’s talks, family services, Sunday schools and holiday clubs. 2. Peter Hellyer is an established One Way UK workshop leader of many years. A children’s pastor for over 30 years Peter now performs and teaches puppetry nationally and internationally. A writer and broadcaster, Peter has written a number of publications for One Way UK, as well as many puppet scripts. He is responsible for writing the One Way UK Daily Devotionals. Peter has been married to Diane for over 40 years and has three sons (all are puppeteers) and two grandsons. She and Peter live in West Sussex. Workshops: 1. The Purpose Driven Team - A Directors' special on Prayer, Vision and Nurture in a Puppet Team, Led By Peter Hellyer & Ian Jones A puppet team can never go beyond its vision, be successful without unity, or prosper without prayer. Fiona Stutton (UK)
Fiona grew up in the Medway towns and has attended church all her life, she was baptised in her teens. It was whilst studying a children's ministry course at Philadelphia College of Bible in the USA that Fiona was introduced to puppetry at the local Baptist Church. Following college, she worked full time for The Family Trust, a Christian Charity set up to share Jesus with children in schools through assemblies, clubs and camps. Taking a step of faith to move on, Fiona spent a year working at Jackson's Ridge, South Africa, doing children's work, specializing in puppetry. She was then privileged to go on tour in America as a member of the One Way Street Puppet Internship Team. Currently Fiona is the children's worker at Ross on Wye Baptist Church. Besides being responsible for all the children’s' work within the church she is also involved in 7 local schools and in the community. She is also a regular team member of the All Age Worship Team at the Spring Harvest conferences. Workshops: 1. "Outer Space, Inner Space" Musical - Unwrapped If you saw the musical Friday night and wondered how it was done - come along to this workshop and you will find out. The musical will be performed once more, but this time, without curtains. Giving you an insight as to what goes on behind the curtains. There may also be opportunity to ask questions to the Academy Team if there is time. 2. Adding Choreographed Moves to Your Performance This workshop will be looking at different moves you can include in your performances and how to build a song up using different components. An ideal starter workshop if you want to enhance your performances with choreography!
Dave & June Privett (USA)
Dave Privett is a master puppeteer, puppet designer, writer and teacher who has been performing since the age of seven, and performing professionally since college. Dave has written, designed, and created for leading children’s companies from Walt Disney to Charisma Life. He’s been awarded two regional Emmys for production and set design in children’s programming. He recently designed the puppets and puppeteered for Integrity’s "Baby Faith" video series, and is a writer and contributor to the Empowering Kids curriculum series. Most of all he loves to tell children about Jesus. June Privett is an accomplished actress, clown, puppeteer and movement specialist who’s been immersed in the arts for years. After being at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, she left to work fulltime "for Daddy God." June loves to share her passion for clowning, mime, and creative movement with children, parents and teachers. She also loves to tell children about God’s love. Dave Privett Workshops: 1. Non-Verbal Puppetry Skills Add a new dimension to your puppetry: Silence! You don’t need words or lyrics to communicate with puppets. Dave will demonstrate how puppetry can translate universal ideas such as love, overcoming adversity, giving of yourself, and other important concepts using only movement and props. What a great tool for those taking mission trips and crossing the language barrier! 2. Shadow Puppetry Get introduced to the “world of shadows” that’s possible through the use of shadow puppetry. Come and learn the three basic elements of this ancient puppetry technique, and how you can use it to add variety to your team’s use of songs and scripts. 3. Fun with Found Object Puppetry You’ve heard the saying, “One person’s trash is another’s treasure?” Found Object Puppetry is taking ordinary objects and turning them into extraordinary puppets and props. Objects become “talking object lessons.” You can even create “interactive dramatics” that children participate in and learn from. Dave will demonstrate a few examples of this ingenious form of puppetry that you can apply to your programmes. 4. Let There Be Blacklight Make your puppet performance come alive with the use of blacklight! Dave will demonstrate and discuss equipment, supplies, resources, props, scenery, and blacklight puppets. He’ll even show you a pattern for a simple blacklight puppet. 5. Bunraku Puppetry This ancient art of Japanese puppetry involves the use of puppets without a ‘formal' stage. Ideas and techniques for solo and team puppetry will be shared. This is a great style of puppetry to use with limited space! Dave will also share scripting ideas for this form of puppetry. June Privett Workshops: 1. Beginner Ballooning This workshop is designed to teach the basics of ballooning. Then June will teach you a couple Gospel messages that you can use with your new object lesson. 2. Whose Line Is It Anyway? Are the creative juices stuck in neutral? Ian Jones (UK)
Ian has been a director of One Way UK since April 2006 working full time with his wife Jenny in our sales office, Grimsby. Ian has a wealth of experience in children’s and youth work and is a qualified accountant. Inspired by One Way UK at a conference, Ian has been the director of his Church puppet team in Grimsby for the last 13 years. Now with over 30 members they have a busy programme of outreach, schools work. Ian was awarded director of the year at the EPMF in 2000 and has led workshops and training days for One Way UK for the last 9 years. Ian’s heart lies in reaching out to children and equipping churches for evangelism. Workshops: 1. "Drop In Not Drop Out" Directors Surgery This workshop is your opportunity to drop in for an informal chat with two experienced puppet team directors, Peter Hellyer and Ian Jones.
