visiting Albania to work with Shkendije in September 2012, we were invited to
return there to do some puppet training at their RRKK annual conference
organised with CCI - Christian Camps International. It was great to be part of this event and a real encouragement to us. There
were 15 group leaders at the conference who have 500 team which reach over
10,000 children each year through the camps.
After the conference, we returned to the capital Tirana. Over the next two days
we did some follow up training to people we had trained at our previous visit
as well as people who were new to puppetry.
Again, it was great to hear how they had been using puppets and what God was
doing in Albania.
At the European Festival in 2012 the offering went to support Rachel and her
work in Albania in particular to help her buy and refit a new van to use in her
It was great to see the van completed and in use with a built in puppet
theatre, sound system, stage and with the stools giving seating for 180
We were able to explore a short way out of Tirana to an old castle where we
enjoyed lunch and even Stuart came along to get into the local atmosphere and
On our last day, we were invited to go and take a school assembly in one of the
local schools. In Albania it is very strict that religion is not taught in
schools so our 45 minute presentation could not mention God or Jesus. We
managed performed I’ve lost my sheep also using the arrow board also THINK and
The Beyond Words sketch – Love Your Enemies. Our theme was about how the
choices we make are very important and that we should be careful what we say
and that our words and actions should encourage and help each other. The programme went down really well and we even got the staff doing the actions
to the song! After, the teachers had a conversation and were asking each other
“What was different about us?” They asked our friend who had arranged the visit
and interpreted for us the same question and they replied “that we have Jesus
in our lives and we want to share the love of God with everyone”.
They have also been asked to go to another school too and even though we did
not openly talk about God, God had been working in people’s lives through us.
We want to thank Rachel and her whole team for all their help. We pray that
they will be able to continue to grow their ministry to the children in Albania
and in providing support and training to the church workers.
